Upgrade one of our classic dog leashes to include a traffic handle, for those times when you need to keep your dog close by! We offer two options for traffic handles:
- High position (top of traffic handle is approx. 28” from bottom of leash)
- Low position (top of traffic handle is approx. 18” from bottom of leash)
Please note: the colour selected for the handle of the leash will also be used for the traffic handle.
Plus, you can still enjoy all of the functionality that comes with our classic leashes.

A note about length: the 4/5/6ft options are measured with the leash handle clipped. Unclipping the leash to attach it to the handsfree adapter will add approx. 1/2ft to your leash length. For example, a 4ft leash will be 4ft with the handle clipped, and approx. 4 1/2ft with the handle unclipped and attached to your handsfree adapter.
Biothane is a coated webbing material that is strong, flexible and lightweight.
It's also waterproof and doesn't smell, making it extremely easy to care for and clean. This makes it our material of choice for pups that love to swim or get dirty!
We use the "Super Heavy" Biothane for all of our leashes, handsfree adapters, classic collars and martingale collars which has a substantial and luxe feel to it. Our adjustable quick release collars use the "Standard" Biothane.
One of the best things about Biothane is how easy it is to care for and clean. Simply soak your gear in warm soapy water as needed. You can use an old toothbrush to scrub away any stubborn dirt. Rinse away any remaining dirt and soap residue with clean water.
Solid brass hardware naturally oxidizes as it ages. It can leave tarnish marks against the biothane, especially on the lighter colours.
To remove tarnish marks, we recommend using a magic eraser or a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Please ensure to thoroughly rinse your product with soap and water before using your gear again.
While Biothane is easy to clean, it does still get dirty. Please keep in mind that lighter colours will show dirt and tarnish marks more easily, and will require more frequent cleaning to keep looking fresh!

“I love the craftsmanship of this leash. It's so durable and feels good in my hand. The material is thick and durable. I finally got to use the clip handle the other day when I tied my dog off to the leg of a table. It was awesome not having to unhook her and wrap the leash through. The traffic handle is thoughtfully positioned. Because of how it's made, my dog's foot doesn't get caught in the traffic loop either if I drop the leash. It's awesome. The colors are awesome and the moon charm is a sweet little addition. It's so well made and feels luxurious. My hand doesn't slip or hurt if my dog starts pulling either. No rope burns! It's great!

It is is a really nice leash stands up to skatejoring with my dog which is nice. I like how thick it is which makes it easier to hold. I do wish there was a three foot version though I like to keep my dog close when hands free and this leash goes to close to the ground for my preference but I am also only 5’5

I love these leashes! Truly the best biothane option I’ve found. I had a different biothane hands free leash but was was wanting a better option so got the 4ft leash with the hands free adapter and I love that the adapter doesn’t tighten around the waist if my dog pulls, and likewise doesn’t get loose all of a sudden which my other one always did. I loved these and the collar so much I decided to also upgrade our everyday 6ft leash and I love that it has a traffic handle on it. I’ve also had a 15ft longline from strange tails for 4years now and it’s still in amazing shape!

This is everything I've been looking for in a leash combo! I have the 4ft traffic leash with the low handle and the large size hands free adapter. Both in lilac and bubblegum, the colors are exactly as advertised. The large size hands free adapter works perfect for doing an over the shoulder setup, I was even able to add my fanny pack for holding bags and treats. The traffic handle is perfect for crowd control or walking past other dogs. Having the traffic leash and hands free adapter separate has been a game changer compared to other hands free leashes. I'm able to quickly release my pup to run with the easy to clean leash dragging or have her in hand for tricky terrain on hikes. Great quality, will be buying again and again for my dogs.

We love it! Norman looks nice with it. Leash is very good qualify- it feels really nice in the hand, and the traffic handle is just right. Although I think the 5ft is a bit too long but it's ok. It works 😁 no biggie. Very good for handling my pup who tends to be all over the place. The colours are beautiful! Thank you!

Best lead will be buying more in all the colours. Shipping was speedy especially since we are in the UK. Honestly love how versatile the lead is for tethering, connecting to hands free attachement, length adjustment depending on situation. Love it and Betty liked it a little too much since she’s nibbled it 🤭
I absolutely love it. Beautiful and practical. The multi functionality of the leash is so useful. I find the handle perfect to keep the dog closer to me when needed. While it might be pricier than most leash you can get in pet stores, they don’t compare to this one.
We really love the soft supple feeling of this dog leash. We were gifted one but unfortunately after 4 years of daily use by our 60 lb dog it started developing lots of little cracks. Concerned that it might break while walking our dog, we decided to go ahead and buy a new one. Hoping the new one will last a little longer.

I absolutely love this leash! I have some dexterity issues with my hands, so I’m impressed by how easy it is to switch from hands-free mode to a normal leash style. It makes playtime and trail walking ridiculously easy. Aesthetically speaking, the colors are vibrant without being an eyesore, and it’s just so well made that it looks great with any outfit. I have no complaints!
The leash with traffic handle is great! I have used it mainly in combination with the hands-free adapter. But it’s really easy to clip/unclip it and use it as a normal leash. There is also al ring at the base, so you can shorten it by half, I use it to tie my dog to places when she can’t enter stores The traffic handle is very handy, especially in stores, busy city streets or when crossing streets. I do find 6 ft a little short on ‘normal’ walks, in places where I don’t feel the need to keep my dog as close. But the leash is perfect for running errands, when I’m in de city or for walks from the car to an off leash place.
Love the hands free and traffic handle lease. The quality is excellent and they look beautiful. I take my dog everywhere and it makes it so much easier when we are shopping.

I am so happy with my purchase! I bought the biothane traffic handle leash in seafoam with terracotta handles (5/8” width and 6’ length) and also the hands-free leash adapter in terracotta with seafoam accents. I love the length of the leash but also how I can shorten it if needed. It attaches so nice to the hands free device. It is also really beautiful and I love the colours that I chose. As a bonus it took a lot quicker to arrive in Australia than I thought. It’s super easy to clean and maintain. I love it so much.

Really great well made leash. I was a bit worried the clip on the handle would interfere with how I hold a leash and I would accidentally unclip it, but it is very comfortable to hold and the clip in on in a way that makes accidentally unclipping it very hard.
This is our second leash from Shop Strange Tails and it won’t be our last! They are durable, easy to clean, and so lightweight. Maple and Minnow love them!
we absolutely love Strange Tails Gear!! we have two sets because the colours are too cute, we couldn’t pick one. A big priority with our Malamute/ Shepherd is to have strong and durable gear and these leashes are amazing! they’ve seen it all - hiking, swimming, puppy training and have held strong. I’ve never had to worry about the leashes breaking even with pulling or hiking, and the fact they wipe clean is a life saver! For something your dog is going to wear everyday these are well worth it. I highly recommend Strange Tails as this is the highest quality equipment we’ve found.

I purchased two 6 ft leashes with the high traffic handles for my pups. These leashes are beautiful and incredibly well made. I’ve been using them for about 6 months and they are holding up great, and both my dogs can pull hard at times. I was particularly pleased how well the high traffic handles held up on a walk where my dogs discovered a mile and became a bit frenzied. I was able to use the high traffic handles to pull my dogs off the mole so it could scurry to safety. For reference, my bigger dog is 76lbs and incredibly strong. I was really impressed that the handles didn’t break. I also particularly like the hardware used for the clasp to connect the leash to the collars as I find it easier to open than the hardware on many big box store leashes. I appreciate the vibrant colors of the leashes and that they wipe clean (and don’t stink!). Now there are two things that I think take getting used to with these leashes that I imagine are common across biothane leashes, and should not be considered a mark against these high quality leashes. The first, is that these leashes are a little heavy compared to nylon leashes. The weight difference did surprise me. The second thing, is that the leash handles are a little cold and stiff in cold weather. So, I do find them a little unpleasant to handle when the temps are below freezing. However, I might try making like a padded cloth handle wrap to help with that. Overall, good purchase.

The only leash I use now. Love the length at 4 feet, and the colors we chose we get compliments while out walking. It’s held up strong with no issues and it’s super easy to wipe clean making it always look new. Very happy with it.
I love this leash and hands free set! It was on my “to buy” list for a while so I made sure to take advantage of the Black Friday sale! I have even used the hands free attachment as a leash quickly after an off leash hike just to get her back to the car safely, it was so nice to wear my “leash” but not feel bulky or like leashes were dangling everywhere during the hike.

This leash is exactly what I was looking for for my 60lb dog. The biothane material is sturdy and easy to clean. The 3/4-inch width feels comfortable to hold for a medium/large pup. The brass clips work well so far and add a nice accent. I really like the low traffic handle position works for my bigger dog. The 5 ft length is great for everyday use in open spaces though it could feel a bit too long for city walks or runs. The great thing is that the leash can also be shortened. The terracotta and moss color combo is perfect for us. I also picked up a matching hands-free adapter and a matching 1-inch collar and everything ties together so nicely. Love it! It works great for our needs.

Love this leash! The fact that it’s waterproof is amazing, I’m not 100% confident in my dog’s recall but I can let it drag through the mud and clean it off easily after.

This is my third strange tails leash and I love it! It's super durable and easy to clean, the traffic handle is nice if you're navigating busier spaces and the hands-free set is really easy to use. We added extra length so that it can function as a double line, and a regular walking line when clipped on 1/2 length. The new colour; sage, matches very well with our lilac/terracotta handsfree.
